Fort Worth Officers Rescue Baby Trapped Under Car After Rollover Crash
FORT WORTH, TX — Two Fort Worth police officers rescued a baby pinned under a vehicle after a rollover crash on Interstate 30 on October 23.
Sgt. Ryan Nichols and Officer Edwin Bounds were on duty when they witnessed the crash unfold. “We just happened to be there at the time,” said Bounds.
The infant and her mother were ejected from the vehicle during the incident. The child became trapped beneath the car, prompting immediate action from the officers and bystanders. “The odds were not in our favor,” Nichols remarked.
According to witnesses, the officers worked together to lift the vehicle and retrieve the baby. They quickly initiated life-saving measures, with Bounds focusing on clearing the child's airway. “My first thought was to make sure she can breathe,” he stated.
Both officers performed CPR while encouraging the baby to keep fighting. The infant eventually cried, a moment Bounds described as “the sweetest sound.”
The rescue was captured on body camera footage, which has gained widespread attention online. “It's just still hard to watch today,” Bounds acknowledged.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, the child remains hospitalized but is expected to fully recover. Chief Eddie Garcia praised the officers' actions, attributing their success to “dad strength.”
The incident illustrates the challenges first responders face in emergencies involving children, as both Nichols and Bounds noted the emotional toll of the situation.
