ROCKFORD, IL — A single-car crash on Harrison Avenue killed a 40-year-old man Friday evening, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. near Eastrock Drive. Rockford Police reported that witnesses saw the vehicle speeding westbound before colliding with a light pole and a tree.
According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, the driver, identified as Lenin Salazar-Hernandez, was unresponsive at the scene and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. An autopsy conducted Monday revealed that Salazar-Hernandez died from blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen due to the crash.
The Rockford Police Department and the Winnebago County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident. Authorities advise motorists to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
