LAREDO, Texas (TNND) — One person is dead after a private plane carrying six people crashed onto Loop 20 on Tuesday night and caught fire, according to police.

The Laredo Police Department received a call at about 10 p.m. reporting the incident near the Texas-Mexico border. The aircraft, identified as a Cessna Citation Latitude twin-engine jet, had departed Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m., according to FlightAware data.

NetJets confirmed that the aircraft involved is part of its fleet and stated that it is cooperating with authorities investigating the crash. NetJets offers fractional ownership in private jets and is owned by Berkshire Hathaway.

Witnesses reported bystanders rushing to assist those trapped inside the aircraft, with some attempting to break the cockpit glass and force open a door.

Authorities said the investigation into the crash is ongoing. This incident follows a series of recent aviation accidents, including a B-52 bomber crash that killed eight people during a test flight in California and another plane crash in Missouri that claimed the lives of 12 skydivers.
