CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 has resulted in several injuries, according to law enforcement officials.
The incident took place shortly after noon on Saturday, on I-64 East, close to the interchange with Interstate 77, as reported by a Metro 911 alert.
Authorities from the Charleston Police Department indicated that the crash occurred within a construction zone, which was contributing to slower traffic conditions. They stated that a tractor-trailer was unable to stop in time, leading to a collision involving multiple vehicles.
Police confirmed that at least three vehicles were part of the accident, and multiple people sustained injuries.
Dispatchers indicated that the crash led to the closure of all but one lane of I-64 East; however, the interstate has since been reopened.
No additional details have been provided at this time.
