LAREDO, Texas (TNND) — One person is dead following a private plane crash on Loop 20 late Tuesday night, according to Laredo Police.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when authorities received reports of the crash near the Texas-Mexico border. FlightAware data confirms the aircraft was a Cessna Citation Latitude twin-engine jet that took off from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m.
The Laredo Police Department confirmed that emergency responders arrived on scene to assist those involved. Witnesses reported bystanders attempting to rescue those trapped inside the burning cockpit by breaking the glass and attempting to open a door.
NetJets, which operates the aircraft involved, stated it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. They did not confirm the number of casualties but acknowledged the incident relates to their fleet.
Further details regarding lane closures and additional injuries are still pending as authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the crash. This incident follows a series of recent aviation accidents, including a B-52 bomber crash in California that resulted in eight fatalities and a skydiver plane crash in Missouri that killed 12 people over the weekend.
