LAREDO, Texas (TNND) — One person died after a private plane crashed onto Loop 20 highway and caught fire on Tuesday night, according to authorities.

The Laredo Police Department reported receiving the call at approximately 10 p.m. regarding the incident near the Texas-Mexico border. The aircraft, a Cessna Citation Latitude twin-engine jet, departed from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m., according to FlightAware data.

NetJets confirmed that the jet was part of its fleet and stated they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Witnesses reported seeing bystanders rush to assist those trapped inside the aircraft, attempting to break the cockpit glass and open a door.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene to handle the fire and begin recovery efforts. Further details on injuries and the status of other passengers remain limited, as officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
