B-52 Stratofortress Crash Claims Eight Lives at Edwards Air Force Base
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, CA — A B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff during a test mission at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Monday, resulting in eight confirmed fatalities, according to military officials.
The incident occurred at the remote airbase, located around 100 miles north of Los Angeles. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, where black smoke was visible. All inbound air traffic was diverted, and the airfield was temporarily closed.
The victims included military personnel, government civilians, and contractors. Military authorities are notifying families of those who perished. “We lost eight great Americans,” said Col. James Hayes, deputy commander of the 412 Test Wing.
The Boeing Company confirmed that two of its employees were among those killed. Investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, with authorities indicating it could take months to determine the specifics.
