BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Lauren Smith reflects on her late husband, Jeromy Smith, who was killed in the recent B-52 crash at Edwards Air Force Base.
Jeromy, a 10-year flight test engineer for the Department of Defense, was part of the 419th unit. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and had a lifelong passion for aerospace, according to Lauren.
The couple had two young children and recently celebrated their four-year wedding anniversary. “He was the love of my life. He is the father of our two kids. He is a leader, a hero, and an amazing person,” Lauren said.
The fatal crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on [insert date], with eight confirmed fatalities. Emergency responders from local agencies were on-site. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and a GoFundMe has been established to support Lauren and her family.
Lauren recalled the final moments she shared with her husband before he left for work, describing a typical morning routine. After learning about the crash, she anxiously awaited news until 6 p.m., when military officials confirmed his death.
“This community has come together to support not just me but all the families affected by this tragedy,” she said. Lauren hopes her husband will be remembered for his kindness and dedication to others.
