JOINER, Ark. (TNND) — A toddler emerged uninjured from a rollover crash on May 2 after his mother allegedly led police on a high-speed chase.
According to Arkansas State Police (ASP), the incident occurred in Mississippi County when a trooper attempted to stop a Dodge Charger for speeding. The driver refused to pull over, prompting the use of a PIT maneuver, which caused the vehicle to spin out of control and overturn.
As authorities awaited backup, the mother was seen opening the car door and assisting her crying 3-year-old son from the wreckage. “You're okay, come right here baby, come right here,” a trooper said in bodycam footage. The mother later crawled out of the car to safety.
ASP reported both the child and the mother were medically cleared at the scene; the child was subsequently released to another adult. Thalia Jones, 23, faces multiple charges including speeding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, child endangerment, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
The car was identified as belonging to Jones' boyfriend. The incident has been reported to the Child Abuse Hotline for further investigation.
