TULSA, Okla. (WKRC) – An Oklahoma father has been sentenced to five years in prison for a January 2024 crash that killed his 16-year-old daughter.

Elliott Binney received the sentence on Monday after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter and multiple other charges. He will also serve five years of probation.

According to authorities, Binney lost control of his vehicle on January 11, 2024, causing it to roll over with several family members inside.

Emergency responders found his daughter, Shelby Binney, critically injured and she later succumbed to her injuries.

Several juvenile passengers were also involved in the incident. Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed in rainy conditions before the crash.

An open bottle of vodka was located near the vehicle, and investigators indicated that Binney admitted to consuming vodka while driving.

Binney fled the scene on foot and was apprehended approximately 40 miles away in Checotah, authorities said.

Prosecutors stated that there was insufficient evidence to establish that Binney was legally impaired at the time of the accident.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler emphasized that Binney's actions following the crash were pivotal in securing the prison sentence.
