LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Maximilliano Chavez, the suspect in a DUI crash that resulted in the death of an unborn baby and left a child critically injured, appeared in court Sunday afternoon.

Chavez, 25, is facing serious charges following the incident on Saturday, which involved multiple vehicles on Windmill Lane and Las Vegas Boulevard. His bail is set at $250,000, and he will be subject to high-level electronic monitoring; he is prohibited from driving or consuming alcohol during the proceedings and must wear an alcohol monitoring device.

According to authorities, Chavez admitted to consuming three alcoholic drinks and using marijuana on the day of the crash. The mother of the unborn child remains in critical condition, while the injured child suffers life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull and brain bleed.

Chavez's next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9.
