Missouri plane crash kills 12, including experienced skydivers, friend says.

Twelve people were killed Sunday, June 14, when a skydiving plane crashed and burned near Butler Memorial Airport, authorities said.

According to authorities, the aircraft was carrying 1 pilot and 11 passengers and went down in a field, killing everyone aboard.

Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson said some family members were at the airport to watch the group jump and witnessed the crash.

Skydive Kansas City, which operated the plane, said its team and the skydiving community were in shock.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating. Authorities said the cause remains under investigation and a final NTSB report could take a year or more.
