Lede: A fatal crash involving multiple vehicles occurred on Highway 99 in Stockton on May 19, leaving one dead and several injured.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at approximately 2:41 p.m. when a sedan collided with two other vehicles heading southbound. The collision resulted in the death of a 34-year-old occupant of one of the cars.

Emergency responders, including local fire and medical units, arrived at the scene to provide aid. A total of three individuals sustained moderate injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the driver responsible for the crash fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after. 28-year-old Manvir Singh is expected to face manslaughter charges related to the incident.

Witnesses reported seeing the prior to the crash. The left lanes of Highway 99 were closed for several hours while the scene was cleared and an investigation was conducted.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
