A driver was arrested after a pedestrian died in a hit-and-run incident in North Topeka on Nov. 15, authorities said.
The victim's identity is not being released pending notification of family, police confirmed.
Sultan Y. Andemichael, 18, of Topeka, was taken into custody, according to Kim Qualls, senior media relations specialist for the City of Topeka.
Charges Pending Against Alleged Driver
Topeka Police responded to the scene at NW Paramore and Topeka Boulevard at approximately 5:53 p.m., Qualls reported.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival, Qualls stated.
Andemichael was booked into the Shawnee County Jail on Nov. 17. He faces one count each of reckless involuntary manslaughter, failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, and interference with a law enforcement officer. He remains held without bond as of Nov. 18, jail records indicate.
Formal charges against Andemichael have not yet been filed, according to Shawnee County District Court records.
