According to court documents, 43-year-old Shauna Dokken was driving on the highway at approximately 4 p.m. on May 29 when her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an driven by 82-year-old Barbara Lee Welburg. Welburg was at the scene.

First responders reported that Dokken exhibited slurred speech but tested negative for alcohol. She acknowledged taking multiple prescription medications earlier that day, including Adderall and lorazepam, as noted by local outlet KSTP.

Dokken sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. Witnesses stated they had to swerve to avoid Dokken's vehicle, with one claiming it seemed as though she was intentionally trying to collide with other cars.

Authorities indicated that Dokken provided several conflicting accounts of the accident, including a claim that her dog grabbed the steering wheel, causing her to lose control. Dokken was previously convicted of DWI in 2025 and was on probation at the time of the crash.

She has since been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
