DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (CBS12) — A deadly crash occurred at a toll booth on June 1, resulting in the death of 63-year-old Tammy Jo “Tiny Joe” Baker.

Authorities reported that 35-year-old Deanna Harrell, driving a pickup truck, exhibited erratic behavior before the incident, nearly colliding with multiple vehicles along Peninsula Drive. Eyewitnesses alerted law enforcement shortly before the crash, which happened just two minutes after Baker entered the booth.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood confirmed that Baker was struck at 12:38 p.m. and aid arrived by 12:39 p.m. Harrell was later found stuck in the sand along the beach, showing signs of intoxication. She was subsequently taken into custody and placed under the Baker Act for making threats of self-harm.

On June 7, authorities announced that Harrell faces charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter. Investigators are continuing their examination of the events leading up to the fatal incident.

Baker's family is mourning her loss, remembering her as a devoted mother and grandmother. Community leaders, including Mayor Nancy Miller, are urging drivers to exercise caution in the beachside area, emphasizing the importance of safety for both pedestrians and workers.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities pledging to hold those accountable for the tragedy.
