DORCHESTER, MA — A moped operator suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a vehicle Friday evening, police confirmed.
Emergency responders arrived at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Columbia Road and Ceylon Street. The moped rider was found unresponsive and transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS.
Authorities said that the driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene. Detectives from the Boston Police Fatal Collision Reconstruction team responded due to the serious nature of the victim's injuries. Witnesses reported the rider was in and out of consciousness following the crash.
Columbia Road was closed in both directions between Quincy Street and Geneva Avenue, with all intersecting streets also shut down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The crash remains under investigation.
