Five-Car Collision on Mendenhall Loop Road Results in Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

JUNEAU, AK—A five-car collision occurred at approximately 7:36 a.m. Wednesday on Mendenhall Loop Road near Goat Hill Road.

According to the Juneau Police Department, a green Honda CRV lost control on the icy road and drifted into oncoming traffic, colliding with a white pickup. This initiated a chain reaction involving a black Toyota 4Runner, which was struck from behind by a silver Toyota RAV4, followed by a black Dodge RAM hitting the RAV4.

Injuries reported were non-life-threatening. The driver and passenger of the CRV, along with the driver of the 4Runner, were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital by Capital City Fire/Rescue. All individuals involved are believed to be in stable condition, per the JPD release.

Damage estimated for the CRV is severe enough to deem it totaled, while the other four vehicles sustained combined damages of approximately $15,000. The drivers of the RAV and RAM were able to depart the scene, while the CRV, pickup, and 4Runner were towed.

The driver of the CRV, 20-year-old Erin McCarthy, received citations for and failing to provide proof of insurance. The roadway was closed for about an hour during the investigation, and Department of Transportation & Public Facilities personnel applied de-icing measures afterward.
