Injuries Reported After Plane Crash Near Lantana Airport

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — A small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Lantana Airport on Monday, resulting in several injuries.

Authorities reported that the single-engine Orlican M-8 Eagle encountered an issue shortly after takeoff, descending and striking a tree on Lake Osborne Drive before colliding with a vehicle. The crash also damaged a nearby park fence.

Emergency responders confirmed that seven individuals were due to the incident. The crash has raised safety concerns among local residents and officials.

State Rep. Debra Tendrich, D-Lake Worth, stated she will meet with airport authorities in the coming weeks to address residents' concerns regarding safety and oversight at the airport, which has been operational since the 1940s.

“With the increase of population and traffic, residents are seeking answers about safety measures,” Tendrich commented.

The airport, which lacks a control tower and landing fees, has a continuous flow of traffic from private pilots and flight schools. Residents like Bob Coakley expressed apprehension about the ongoing aerial activity in the area.

“This is something we've worried about for a long time,” Coakley said, referring to the crash's implications.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. No further details regarding the condition of the injured have been released.
