Issues Recall for Over 61,000 Cherokee SUVs Due to Powertrain Issues

UNDATED (WKRC) – Chrysler has recalled more than 61,000 Jeep Cherokee vehicles due to a potential powertrain failure risk.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects certain 2019 through 2023 Jeep Cherokee SUVs. The vehicles may contain a defective power transfer unit (PTU), which could lead to a loss of drive power and, in some instances, unintended vehicle movement.

Chrysler, a division of FCA US LLC, stated that a remedy for the issue is currently under development. Owners will receive notification letters starting June 25, detailing the associated safety risks. A follow-up notice will be issued once a fix is available.

For further assistance, affected owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 40D. The vehicle identification numbers related to this recall will be searchable on the NHTSA website beginning May 14.
