Funeral Services Scheduled for Fallen Trooper Kevin Trainor
PEABODY, MA — Funeral services for Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, who died in a crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield on May 6, will be held this week.
Trainor was killed in a wrong-way crash early Wednesday morning; another driver, Hernan Marrero of Roslindale, also died in the incident. According to authorities, both fatalities were confirmed at the scene.
The wake is set for Tuesday, May 12, from 4-7 p.m. at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home in Peabody, followed by a funeral mass on Wednesday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at St. James Church in Salem.
City officials stated that thousands of state and local police officers are expected to attend the services. To accommodate this, road closures will begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday in the vicinity of St. James Church, with traffic patterns expected to be disrupted throughout the morning. Members of the public are invited to line Boston Street west of Bridge Street toward Peabody starting at 9:45 a.m. to pay their respects.
At the wake's start, State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble will lead a ceremonial walkthrough past Trainor's casket, followed by state police command staff and colleagues.
Pallbearers will include Trainor's brothers and close friends from the 88th Recruit Training Troop. After the funeral service, a rifle squad will perform a three-volley salute, followed by Taps. The U.S. flag draping the casket will be presented to the Trainor family along with badge number 5179, which will be retired in his honor.
