Fatal crash on Rosser Boulevard sparks urgent safety concerns

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A fatal crash on Rosser Boulevard on Tuesday has raised concerns about , prompting residents to appeal for traffic calming measures.

Police reported a 68-year-old man died when a pick-up truck swerved into a ditch while traveling south on Rosser Boulevard, reportedly passing other vehicles recklessly. Witnesses indicated that the vehicle was moving in the opposite lane before the crash.

Since 2020, there have been 280 accidents on Rosser Boulevard, with three resulting in fatalities. Local resident Peter Overhuls noted, “This is known as the ‘Rosser Racetrack,'” expressing concerns over excessive on the road.

The speed limit on Rosser Boulevard ranges from 30 to 40 mph, yet residents feel there are insufficient measures to control driver behavior. Overhuls stated that the last traffic calming feature is a stop sign about 2 miles away and called for speed bumps or speed strips to be installed.

City officials recommend that residents request a traffic calming study and gather signatures from 50% of neighbors to initiate action. Neighbors can also report traffic complaints through the 1PSL app, although immediate concerns should be communicated directly to law enforcement for prompt response.

Local authorities emphasize the need for community involvement in addressing these safety issues. Overhuls warned, “This is not going to stop. It's going to continue.”
