Honolulu Woman Dies Following Likelike Highway Crash
Honolulu, HI – A 20-year-old woman died Sunday from injuries sustained in a crash on Likelike Highway last week, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just after 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, when a 17-year-old boy lost control of a vehicle while driving northbound near the Wilson Tunnel. The vehicle, carrying three passengers, struck a guardrail on the right shoulder, as reported by the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division.
One of the backseat passengers, a 20-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and subsequently transported by Emergency Medical Services to a hospital in serious condition. Police have not confirmed whether she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
On Sunday, the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office informed HPD that the woman succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has not been publicly released.
Authorities stated that speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash. This incident marks Oahu's 14th traffic fatality of the year, in comparison to 25 fatalities at the same point in 2022.
