Waipahu Hit by Vehicle, Critically Injured

WAIPAHU, HI — A 32-year-old pedestrian suffered critical injuries on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Mokuola Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. when a 22-year-old man driving northbound veered off the roadway, colliding with a tree before continuing onto the sidewalk. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was walking in the same direction.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver was also and is reported to be in good condition.

Authorities stated that speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
