Waipahu Pedestrian Hit by Vehicle, Critically Injured
WAIPAHU, HI — A 32-year-old pedestrian suffered critical injuries on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Mokuola Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. when a 22-year-old man driving northbound veered off the roadway, colliding with a tree before continuing onto the sidewalk. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was walking in the same direction.
Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver was also hospitalized and is reported to be in good condition.
Authorities stated that speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
