Honolulu, HI – A 28-year-old woman died Saturday in a solo vehicle crash on the H-1 Freeway near North School Street and Aala Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:58 p.m. as the woman was driving westbound. According to Honolulu Police, she drifted left across several lanes before colliding with the concrete median. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene, and it was confirmed she was not wearing a seatbelt.
The westbound lanes of the H-1 were closed for several hours, causing significant traffic delays during the holiday. Authorities reopened the roadway shortly after 10 p.m.
Police reported that speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash; however, the potential involvement of drugs or alcohol remains under investigation. This incident marks the 22nd traffic fatality on Oahu for the year, compared to 41 fatalities at the same time last year.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
