Tuscaloosa Woman Dies in Crash, Leaving Three Others Injured.

TUSCALOOSA, AL – April 18, 2026, 11:30 p.m. CT – A crash in Tuscaloosa County resulted in one fatality and three injuries.

Ashley M. Kornegay, 36, of Tuscaloosa was confirmed deceased at the scene after the 2007 Yukon, in which she was a passenger, veered off Alabama Highway 216 near the three-mile marker and collided with a tree, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Kayla M. Smith, 35, the driver and a resident of Cottondale, and 19-year-old Leanna N. Hood, also from Cottondale, sustained injuries and were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center. A 14-year-old passenger was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported the incident occurred approximately five miles east of Tuscaloosa. Troopers from ALEA's Highway Patrol Division are investigating the crash. Further details have not been released.
