TROY, AL—A Troy man was killed in a collision between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer in Dale County on August 16, 2025.
According to Alabama State Troopers, the accident occurred at about 7:35 a.m. on U.S. Highway 231, approximately five miles south of Ariton. The victim, 81-year-old Carroll Grant Hughes, was driving the pickup when it struck a tractor-trailer operated by 24-year-old Jaden Christopher Dunwoody of Dothan.
Authorities confirmed that Hughes was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Dunwoody sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in Ozark for medical treatment.
The incident is still under investigation, and details regarding potential lane closures were not immediately available.
