MASHPEE, MA — A school crash in Mashpee injured a driver and one student on Monday morning, around 8:40 a.m.

According to police, a Mashpee Public Schools bus, carrying 26 students aged six to 12, crashed into a tree after the driver reportedly suffered a medical episode. The bus was en route to Quashnet Intermediate School and Kenneth C. Coombs School when the incident occurred near Old Barnstable Road and Leather Leaf Lane.

Upon arrival, responding officers found the bus off the eastbound side of the road, having struck a tree. The driver and one student were transported to a hospital for evaluation; authorities noted that their injuries were not considered serious. All other students were assessed at the scene by emergency personnel and reported no injuries. They were released to family members or neighbors with parental consent.

The incident is under investigation, with Mashpee Police conducting accident reconstruction.

School Superintendent Michele Conners expressed gratitude that no serious injuries occurred and emphasized support for the driver, a valued member of the transportation team. Counseling services are being offered to students who may need them.

Emergency responders included local police and fire departments, as well as medical personnel.
