Delaware County, Ohio — April 13, 2026: State transportation officials released traffic camera video of an April 11 I-71 northbound crash that killed three.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Freightliner semi-truck traveling northbound on I-71 about 6:27 p.m. April 11 failed to stop for backed-up traffic near U.S. 36/Route 37.
Authorities said the truck struck stopped vehicles and then the median. ODOT's released video shows a white semi hitting a line of cars.
A 37-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and a 1-year-old child in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado died, according to the patrol. Three other people were injured.
The driver, Modou F. Ngom, 50, of Columbus, was taken into custody and booked into the Delaware County Jail on aggravated vehicular homicide charges, authorities said.
Traffic was backed up in a construction zone for ODOT's I-71/U.S. 36/SR 37 interchange and proposed Sunbury Parkway project, according to ODOT.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the investigation is ongoing. No additional details on lane closures or tows were released.
