THP Names Bus Driver in Fatal School Field Trip Crash and Reveals New Details.

CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — A school crash on Highway 70 near Cedar Grove on March 30 resulted in two student fatalities and several injuries.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the Clarksville-Montgomery County school was carrying 29 individuals: 24 students, four adults, and the driver. The driver has been identified as Sabrina R. Ducksworth, operating a 2024 Blue Bird School Bus.

The incident involved the school bus, a Tennessee Department of Transportation dump truck, and a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Witnesses reported that the bus veered into oncoming traffic before colliding with the dump truck, which subsequently caught fire. The bus then left the road and struck a tree, while the Chevrolet sustained front-end damage but its driver was unharmed.

Authorities confirmed that two students died at the scene, with multiple others . Nine medical helicopters were dispatched, transporting seven patients to trauma centers in Memphis and Nashville, while others were taken to local hospitals by ground ambulance.

The THP's Critical Incident Response Team, along with its Pupil Transportation Division, is conducting an investigation. Crews are reconstructing the accident using witness statements and evidence from the scene.

Support services are available for affected students, families, and staff, with community assistance provided by chaplains and peer support teams. The investigation is ongoing.
