SC Troopers Hunt for Driver in Fatal Spartanburg Hit-and-Run.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A Dorman High School student was killed in a incident on Howard Street on February 17.

The crash occurred around 7:50 p.m., resulting in the death of 19-year-old Jose Morales-Diaz, according to Coroner Rusty Clevenger. Authorities reported that Morales-Diaz was found deceased in the roadway.

The S.C. Highway Patrol and Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident. Lt. Graham McLellan, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office, confirmed that Highway Patrol is the lead agency on the case. Troopers believe Morales-Diaz was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.

Emergency responders from both agencies arrived at the location to conduct an investigation. Details regarding lane closures and any tows have not been released.
