HONOLULU (Island News) — A crash on I-40 in New Mexico on Sunday claimed the lives of a North Shore family, including a recent college graduate.

Wayne and Luana Viveiros, along with their 22-year-old daughter, Lilinoe, died when a commercial truck crossed the median and struck their vehicle. Authorities confirmed they were at the scene.

The Viveiros family was on vacation when the incident occurred. Lilinoe, who graduated from the University of Hawaii West Oahu in December, was preparing to start a teaching career. “She was very passionate about STEM,” said Sharla Hanaoka, her senior advisor.

In the days leading up to the crash, Lilinoe said her goodbyes at work, a farewell that now carries a deeper poignancy. Friends and community members are mourning the loss, describing the family as loving and supportive.

A GoFundMe has been established to assist the family in the wake of this tragedy.
