EWA BEACH (Island News) – A 57-year-old moped rider died from injuries sustained in a crash on September 1, 2026.
According to the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office, the rider succumbed to his injuries on September 28. This incident marks Oahu's 30th traffic fatality this year, a decrease from 67 at the same time in 2025.
The crash occurred around 1 a.m. on Fort Weaver Road. Authorities said the moped operator was traveling westbound on Renton Road when he failed to stop at a red light and turned left, colliding with a 29-year-old driver proceeding south.
Emergency responders transported the moped rider to a hospital in critical condition. Police confirmed he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, with lane closures reported during the response.
