LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A hit-and-run crash on Nellis Boulevard claimed the life of a pedestrian on Monday night.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 8:43 p.m. between Stewart Avenue and Charleston Boulevard. Emergency Medical Services pronounced the pedestrian, 44-year-old Daniel Wetzel, dead at the scene.
According to police, video surveillance indicated Wetzel was crossing Nellis Boulevard westbound outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2022-2026 Genesis GV60 traveling southbound.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Broderick Brunlinger, turned himself in to the Downtown Area Command on Tuesday. Brunlinger reported believing he had collided with a bicyclist, prompting him to pull into a nearby parking lot.
Brunlinger, who stated he panicked after the collision due to a previous death in his family, initially left the scene but returned later to find no one. He was arrested for failure to remain at the scene of the crash.
Brunlinger is scheduled to appear in court on September 21. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed Wetzel's death marks the 85th traffic-related fatality in their jurisdiction in 2026.
