GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) — A two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning left one man dead and seven children injured in Germantown, Maryland.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to the accident at the intersection of Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway around 5:30 a.m. Emergency responders reported that one vehicle overturned and caught fire, leading to multiple people trapped inside.
Authorities said a total of eight individuals were involved: one adult male, who was the sole occupant of a blue vehicle that crashed, and seven juveniles aged 12 to 15 in a white vehicle. The adult was pronounced dead at the scene. The children were transported to area hospitals, with some reported in critical condition.
Investigators confirmed that none of the juveniles were licensed to drive and no adults were present in the white vehicle. “What I can say to you is that the white vehicle had juveniles inside, none of whom were old enough to be driving,” Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Shiera Goff stated.
As of Tuesday morning, Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway remain closed, with lane closures expected for several hours while officials reconstruct the scene. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
