OGDEN, Utah (KUTV) — A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding an e-bike on Sunday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m. near 7th Street and Adams Avenue.
Authorities reported that the driver fled the scene. The boy suffered a cracked skull, damage to his eye socket, and severe leg injuries, according to witness accounts. He underwent surgery on his leg on Sunday evening and is expected to need multiple additional surgeries and skin grafts.
Witnesses reported differing accounts of the incident, with some claiming the boy was weaving through traffic while traveling westbound, and others stating he was stopped at a stop sign when hit. A friend who was with the boy at the time witnessed the collision.
Mark Ryan, a neighbor, described seeing the aftermath of the crash and noted that the vehicle continued driving after impact. “You don't hit something like that and just take off. That's not cool at all,” he said.
This incident marks the second serious accident involving a child at the same intersection this year. Neighbors have expressed growing concerns about speeding in the area, calling it dangerous. Gloria Leon, another resident, noted similar circumstances in a previous incident.
Utah state law stipulates that riders aged 8 to 14 must be accompanied by an adult when riding an e-bike, and those 16 and under cannot ride e-bikes exceeding 20 mph. Residents urge city officials to consider additional safety measures at the intersection.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or footage from the crash to come forward.
