LEWISTON, Wis. (WKOW) – A 27-year-old man was sentenced to six years in state prison on Monday for a hit-and-run crash that resulted in a fatality in May 2024.
According to authorities, Keegin Neveln of Portage crashed into a tree on Malisch Road. After the incident, Neveln called 911 and admitted to driving, but left the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Kayla Mcclenithan, who was found unresponsive at the scene and later pronounced dead.
In addition to prison time, Neveln will serve 10 years of supervised release and had his driver's license revoked for five years. As part of his sentencing, he is required to remain sober and cannot possess or consume controlled substances unless prescribed. He must also pay restitution and write an apology letter to Mcclenithan's family, with no further contact permitted.
Neveln will receive credit for 530 days already served.
