Crash involving school bus injures three after pigs block road.

Crash Involving School Bus in Craven County Injures Three

A crash occurred on Wednesday, October 29, on Highway 70 East near Riverdale, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that two pigs on the roadway caused traffic to slow down. A Craven County school bus, carrying 17 children, began to reduce speed when a vehicle driven by 51-year-old Heather Cerovac of Havelock collided with the back of the bus.

Minor injuries were reported for Cerovac, a passenger in her vehicle, and one student on the bus. All individuals received medical care at CarolinaEast.

Officials noted that one of the pigs was injured and posed a safety risk; NC Wildlife officials euthanized the injured pig. The reason for the pigs being on the roadway is still under investigation.

Cerovac received a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. The public information officer for Craven County Schools confirmed the accident.
