21-Year-Old Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-359 in Tuscaloosa
TUSCALOOSA, AL — A 21-year-old woman died in a multi-vehicle crash on I-359 early Sunday morning, November 9, 2023.
Authorities reported that Cierra Brena Anthony was a passenger in a 2023 Dodge Challenger involved in a chain-reaction accident at approximately 2 a.m. The incident began when another vehicle rear-ended Anthony's car, prompting them to exit and check on the other driver.
While outside their vehicle, another crash occurred, causing a third vehicle to strike Anthony's parked car, which subsequently hit her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Five other individuals from the seven vehicles involved were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
Two drivers involved in the incident have been charged with driving under the influence. The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the TPD's Traffic Homicide Unit.
I-359 was closed to traffic until 9:50 a.m. on Sunday. Emergency response included 26 officers from the Tuscaloosa Police Department and assistance from the Northport Police Department and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue.
