NORTH CHARLESTON — A on the Don Holt Bridge killed two drivers early Oct. 25, authorities said.

Jake Stevens, 35, from the United Kingdom, was traveling in the wrong direction on westbound Interstate 526 when his vehicle collided with another driven by 49-year-old Robert Brown of West Ashley. The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m., leaving both men trapped in their cars and at the scene by the Charleston County Coroner's Office.

Another vehicle subsequently crashed into the wreckage. The driver was transported to a local hospital, with identity and condition not yet disclosed.

The North Charleston Police Department is investigating the incident and encourages witnesses to come forward via its CrimeWatch portal.

This collision mirrors a similar incident that happened over a year ago, with a driver also traveling the wrong way on the same bridge. Luke Carter Madden, 21, was killed in a head-on crash around 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2025.

Westbound I-526 features significant concrete dividers separating it from eastbound lanes, with multiple entrance and exit ramps available throughout the route. Traffic cameras along I-526 provide live feeds of roadway conditions but do not record incidents, according to a S.C. Department of Transportation spokesperson.
