ALDSWORTH, England (WKRC) — A 21-year-old woman was sentenced to over nine years in prison for a high-speed crash that killed two people on December 2, 2022.
Liberty Mitchell, of Chipping Norton, received a sentence increase from six years and eight months to nine years and three months after a referral by the U.K. Attorney General's Office.
According to authorities, Mitchell was driving toward Aldsworth when she attempted to overtake three vehicles on the wrong side of the road at nearly 100 mph in a 60 mph zone, colliding with a taxi. Taxi driver Octavian Codreanu died at the scene, while passenger Moyra Whelan later died at a hospital. Six other individuals were injured, including three with serious injuries.
Investigators found videos on Mitchell's social media showing her engaging in reckless driving. One video reportedly captured her traveling at 100 mph, while another depicted her crossing into oncoming traffic. Authorities noted that Mitchell's insurance did not cover business use, as she was driving between cleaning jobs.
Mitchell pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. In addition to her prison term, she has been disqualified from driving for eight years and four months and must pass an extended driving test to regain her license.
Attorney General Ellie Reeves stated that Mitchell's reckless behavior “claimed the lives of two people and left many others with life-changing injuries.”
