One Woman Dies in Crash in Jo Daviess County

JO DAVIESS COUNTY, Ill. — An 81-year-old woman has died following a single-vehicle crash on Thursday evening.

Just before 5 p.m. on October 5, Jo Daviess County deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to a report of a accident on North Elizabeth Scales Mound Road, south of County Road O. The location is near Scales Mound, close to the Wisconsin-Illinois border.

Initial reports indicated that the vehicle rolled over on private property, and the driver was found unresponsive. First responders initiated life-saving measures upon arrival. The victim was identified as Judith Winter of Scales Mound.

Deputies discovered that Winter's vehicle had clipped a garage before careening down a hill and colliding with a utility pole. The vehicle ultimately came to rest in a nearby pasture.

Despite resuscitation efforts, Winter was at the scene, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office. The Coroner's Office has been notified and is handling the examination of the deceased.

Authorities stated that the crash is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
