DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. — Two people were seriously injured in a crash involving a plow truck on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 9 a.m., the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Base Line Road and Five Points Road.
Investigation reveals that a Chevrolet Silverado plow truck, driven by 28-year-old Andrew Weems, was traveling north on Five Points Road when a SUV, operated by 67-year-old Kristie Sujewicz of Esmond, drove through a stop sign while heading east on Base Line Road.
The vehicles collided, causing Sujewicz's SUV to roll multiple times before coming to a halt off the road. Deputies reported that Sujewicz needed to be extricated from her vehicle and was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries. Weems was also taken to a local hospital for serious injuries. A passenger in Weems's truck sustained only minor injuries.
Authorities issued Sujewicz two citations for disobeying a stop sign and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and lane closures were in effect during the emergency response.
