Woman dies and children are injured in Autauga County crash.

AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A crash on Alabama Highway 14 early this morning resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to two children.

According to Alabama State Troopers, 35-year-old Kristi Matthews of Autaugaville was driving an at approximately 2:30 a.m. when it left the roadway, hit a culvert, became airborne, and struck a ditch. Authorities confirmed Matthews was not wearing a seatbelt and was from the vehicle, dying at the scene.

Troopers stated that a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old, who were also unrestrained passengers, were from the SUV and sustained injuries. Both children were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred about two miles west of Prattville. An investigation is ongoing, and no further details on lane closures or towing were immediately available.
