HONOLULU (Island News) – A 54-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run crash on the H-1 East Freeway in Waipahu, which occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the woman's death on Tuesday, September 8, marking Oahu's 27th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 62 at the same time in 2025.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when an unidentified driver rear-ended a parked vehicle on the freeway's right shoulder. The victim was a rear passenger in the parked vehicle. Witnesses reported that the driver did not stop and continued eastbound, exiting onto the Pearl City off-ramp.
Paramedics transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was reported in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed whether speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors in the incident.
