New Orleans Woman Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident
April 30, 2023—A 57-year-old woman was arrested for her involvement in a hit-and-run crash on St. Claude Avenue that resulted in a pedestrian‘s death.
Rhonda Watts is accused of intentionally striking a man in the 3900 block of St. Claude Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on April 28, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries on May 1.
Authorities reported that Watts fled the scene following the incident, and her vehicle was later located by police. She was apprehended on April 30 in the 3400 block of Urquhart Street and has been charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. As of Monday evening, her bond was set at $2.5 million.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
