Wellesley Police Investigate Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash
WELLESLEY, MA—A single-vehicle crash on Washington Street resulted in one fatality early Monday morning, according to local authorities.
At approximately 11:18 a.m., a Wellesley officer responded to a call regarding a black SUV in the roadway near Crescent Street. A female bystander, unaffiliated with the crash, flagged down the officer, who discovered the male driver unconscious inside the vehicle. Emergency responders from the Natick Fire Department transported him to Newton Wellesley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver's identity is not being released pending family notification.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling east on Washington Street before it left the roadway near Orchard Street, re-entering and coming to a stop at 76 Washington St. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Washington Street was closed between Walnut Street and Glen Road for several hours during the investigation, reopening at approximately 2 p.m.
