MORONI, Utah — A pedestrian crash Tuesday about 7:55 a.m. near 1808 E. Dairy Lane left a pregnant mother and her newborn dead.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Rebecca Hafen was walking on the shoulder when she was struck by a vehicle. She was taken to a hospital and died Tuesday from her injuries, authorities said.
Doctors performed an emergency delivery after the crash. The newborn received care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and died Wednesday, according to an update posted to a family fundraiser.
UHP Lt. Zach Randall said the investigation is ongoing. No charges are expected against the driver unless investigators determine speed was a factor, and charging decisions will be made by the Sanpete County Attorney's Office, authorities said.
