MORONI, Utah (KUTV) — A mother of nine and her newborn baby died following a vehicle collision on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:55 a.m. near 1808 E. Dairy Lane, according to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP). Authorities reported that Rebecca Hafen, who was pregnant, was walking on the shoulder when struck by the vehicle.
Hafen was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later that day. Emergency medical personnel performed a delivery to aid her newborn, who was subsequently admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for care.
However, an update on a GoFundMe page stated that the baby later passed away. The fundraising effort aims to support Tyson Hafen and their children during this tragic time, covering medical expenses and other needs.
Witnesses reported that no charges are anticipated against the driver unless investigators conclude that speed influenced the incident. The Sanpete County Attorney's Office will determine any charges.
UHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash. Donations for the Hafen family can be made through their GoFundMe page.
