INDEPENDENCE — A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 53 involving a Minnesota State Patrol squad occurred Monday morning, resulting in minor injuries.
Around 11:10 a.m., a civilian vehicle collided with a Minnesota State Patrol squad that was escorting a semitrailer transporting a wind turbine blade. The semitrailer was not involved in the crash, according to Sgt. Erik Peterson of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
Highway 53 remained open in both directions following the incident. A spokesperson for the Minnesota State Patrol declined to comment, referring inquiries to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, which is handling the investigation.
A tow truck was seen preparing to remove one of the damaged vehicles from the scene.
